Fat Boy Thin Man

Good news, bad news

Taxonomy upgrade extras:

So I'm at my local library, where, some months ago, with the help of a reader/patron, I donated a copy of my book, "Fat Boy Thin Man." The only other time I checked, it wasn't in the library's catalog.

Today, I not only saw it there, but I saw that another library in the Minuteman Library Network also has a copy. Both are lent at the moment, and two other readers are waiting their turn to read.

FBTM on "Chronicle"

Taxonomy upgrade extras:

The Boston-area TV magazine show "Chronicle" will air a piece on "Fat Boy Thin Man" Tuesday, Feb. 22, at 7:30 p.m.

Please tune in, and please share the news with others you think might be interested, via social networking, the water cooler, or whatever else you have at your disposal.

If you're not in the Boston area, you can see the piece online beginning on the 23d, at the above link.

Crop to Cuisine interview

Taxonomy upgrade extras:

Dov Hirsch's interview with me on his show, "Crop To Cuisine," ran a week ago, but I'm only getting around to posting it today. In fact, I just listened to it myself and am very pleeased with their handling of my comments; I'm eager for you to hear it.

The interview commences about 8:30 into the show.

More mainstreaming

I started writing "Fat Boy Thin Man" more than six years ago, and though the timing was mine, not measured to the zeitgeist, even then I thought that it was coming at a good juncture in history.

I was right then, but boy, the pace is picking up. "Mike and Molly," the sitcom in which the main characters meet at an Overeaters Anonymous meeting, could hardly be a more mainstream example.

A great and busy week

Taxonomy upgrade extras:

I didn't plan it this way, but this first week of 2011 has turned out to be a whirlwind of outreach for "Fat Boy Thin Man."

Monday, an interview I did with Crop To Cuisine aired in New York, Austin, Denver, and several other markets. I haven't been able to hear it yet, but I felt that the interaction with my interviewer, Dov Hirsch, was excellent, and I'm hopeful for the edited version.

In the Morning Call (updated)

Taxonomy upgrade extras:

I was delighted to see this morning that the Morning Call, a newspaper in Allentown, Pa., picked up the Hartford Courant's Q&A with me. So, hi to all my new pals in the Lehigh Valley.

Added 12/14: Turns out, the Courant is part of the Health Key, and the story ran in quite a few places across the country: South Bend, Ind., Chicago, New Orleans, and other places I'd know if I had more patience for Googling.

A nice hit for "Fat Boy Thin Man"

Taxonomy upgrade extras:

Despite (Because of?) having spent three decades of my life writing and editing for them, newspapers haven't yet been a very successful venue for "Fat Boy Thin Man."

But perhaps owing to the Hartford threads in the book, the Hartford Courant decided to tell its readers about the book this morning, and they did a very nice job. It's a Q&A; I found the questions well considered, and the condensing of the conversation was very good.
