We went out to the Madrona Tree for dinner Saturday night, and soon after we ordered, the waiter returned with a question from the cook:
You realize that you've ordered bacon on your veggie burger?"
Uh, yes, I realize. And it indicates several things:
♦ Bacon is the first reason why I doubt I'll ever be a vegetarian. I like it. Cobb salad, for example, is really just a bacon-delivery system.
♦ Just because I'll never be a vegetarian doesn't mean that I can't cut back on animal protein. As much as my addict self prefers black or white, nature is a lot more gray. And, IMO, nature is always right.
♦ I haven't eaten beef in at least 10 years. I eat fish or chicken only every couple of weeks or so. Not on dogma, but on circumstance. I cook for the family, and my wife isn't very big on them. I could make separates, but I just don't feel the need. Or, more to the point, the want. And I used to be a beef hog. Chicken too. Veal. Most of 'em.
But yes, I'll have bacon with that.

I'll have bacon with that, too!!
I often order a spinach salad, which provides, of course, spinach! It is a food recommended for me, because I have high blood pressure. With that salad comes a hard boiled egg and a couple of bacon strips cut into pieces. I have it once a week, and I truly look foward to it. Who would've thought that a candy bar, cookie, liquer guzzling compulsive eater/alcoholic's mouth would water over a weekly spinach salad?? LOL! Its the bacon, baby, the bacon!
