Congressman Ed Markey follows up his energy road show last Monday at MIT with an appearance tomorrow at Tufts. A school group, Environmental Consciousness Outreach, is hosting Earthfest: Focus the Nation from noon -4 p.m. on the Academic Quad. The event will include live music, free food, and speakers, including the directors of Environment America and Environment Massachusetts. Sally Sharow, a sophomore, said in an e-mail pitch to members of Sustainable Arlington that "we're hoping to use this event as an opportunity to thank the congressman for all of the work he's done on climate action in Congress and to encourage him to keep pressing for strong climate policy." Markey has been on the energy committee in the House for all his 33 years there, and is cosponsor of American Clean Energy and Security Act, and has as much cred on energy issues as anyone. Even so, it seems a bit much (aside to readers: I want credit for not saying "sophomoric") to be thanking him quite yet. Yes, he was in the minority, and had an obstructionist administration opposing his efforts, etc. but let's wait until he accomplishes something before congratulating him.
