I’m way too busy to write this post, which is completely off topic for me, and if I were more disciplined, I wouldn’t expend the time. But this morning, we had a slightly scary visitation from the words of the Lord.
Sorta. Maybe. Probably not. And yet.
Joe and I were dressing for the day when we started hearing a voice, completely unrecognized and unbidden. It hit us both this way: Is that a noise?
What’s that noise?
Is it someone talking?
Where’s it coming from?
Is it in the bathroom? But no one’s in the bathroom.
I moved the couple of steps from the bedroom and, after verifying the voice was emanating from there, realized it was a) coming from clock radio there, and b) a passage from the Bible, or something Bible-passage-like.
This clock radio has been in our bathroom perhaps a month, and at least in my experience, had never fulfilled the radio part of its clock-radio mission in our house. We got it off Freecycle perhaps three months ago, and I installed it when our previous bathroom clock expired.
Completely without doubt, the radio came on by itself. I didn’t turn it on, Joe couldn’t reach it without effort, and no one else was home.
Still, it’s all explicable: Maybe it was triggered by the alarm function, even though it had struck 8:05 at least several dozen times and done nothing. Maybe that’s why it ended up on Freecycle, because the radio comes on randomly, and rarely. Maybe the donor listens to Christian radio and because we only needed the clock, we’d never retuned the radio.
All explicable, but still.
Actually, there’s the other explanation, too, that it really was God calling, but if so, it didn’t work. I was too distracted by the mystery of the method of the man behind the curtain to pay attention to what he was saying.
