This is not an endorsement, and I won't be attending, and if it was for almost any other substance, I wouldn't even be posting. But for bacon, OK.
This Sunday, the 19th, beginning at 3, the Bacon Take Down is coming to the Somerville Armory. Twenty local chefs, making concoctions of bacon. Entry is $15, and I don't know who benefits — surely not the pigs, and probably not the eaters — but it's not for a charity or anything. Just bacon lovers, of which I am one; it is the the strongest reason I will never reach vegetarianism.
However, I am best off when I don't go into halls that celebrate that love: The fact that there will be endless samples of bacon is precisely why I won't be attending. The best possible outcome is that I'd moderate my intake and wish I could had more, and the more likely outcome is that I'd wish I had moderated my intake more than I did.
Like in the movie "War Games," the only way to win is not to play.
