Marion Nestle, the doyenne of food, food politics, and food policy, has a number of post analyzing the new dietary guidelines, including this one and this one. She is da bomb.
I think it's fair to say that though she doesn't consider it blemishless, she finds lots to admire. Her first comment after running through some bullet points is, "I’m in shock. I never would have believed they could pull this off."
BTW, by listening to a podcast interview she gave to Kelly Brownell at Yale's Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity, I learned that she pronounces her name to rhyme with trestle, as opposed to the Swiss foodmaker known for its chocolate. Maybe you knew that.
